Since I wrote you I have been to Oregon City made a visit there with some old friends we knew at Albany, had not seen them for near eight years. Had a nice time and the day I went back home got on the train at Oswego and my cousins was on there same train so they made us a short visit and I came home with them and here I am! I am rusticating now a days. Bumming as the folks at home call it. I may return on Saturday or may be not till Tuesday. I have not been out much since I came to town as both of my cousins have been sick. Mrs. Walker is quite sick yet! Think will go to Albina tomorrow if it is a pretty day, which I hope will be. Herry Hand had the misfortune to have his knee thrown out of place. It is his best limb. He was hauling lumber and the team run away they pared(?) him off but he hung to the lines or he would have been crushed by the wheels. Was drug quite a piece(?). Mr. Willson is now keeping a meat shop in Smockville. He had the luck to cut his wrist very badly. I have no more to write so will close by asking you to excuse this scribbling as I wrote in a hurry, wanted to get through before the folks got back. If I have wrote all plain(?) this time put a long mark down. Expecting to hear from you soon so good bye your true friend Anna Skeels ------------ Scholls Ferry Wednesday morning Jan 6th 1892 Dear Hiel I received yours of Dec 25, a few days ago. I could not help but laugh when I read it to think how much alike we had wrote and how near the same time. Very sorry to hear you had an accident, you must be careful or you may have a time with it yet. We are having a few days sunny weather, the snow has not laid on at all at any time. The boys have got back, and they had diphtheria where they were, but they have not taken it, the doctor told them the time to take it was from three to seven days and they was there that long, no signs of anything of that kind yet. But most of the folks are ailing, Mother and Marion with the rheumatism slightly. Preston with his side. I am well. I have filled three comfort tops since I came home besides other things. We had a party New Year’s eve at Mr. Hansons, Hattie, ?Dad? and P were there. Had quite a nice time, but would not have went only for Hattie, as the boys was not here. I will have to bring this to a close as Pa is most ready for town and today is wash day and I have to give Molly a lesson this forenoon. So now good bye, write soon and come soon.
