Gilbertville, April 29.—Special to Reporter—Mrs. Valentine Heinen died at her home in this place this morning at 2 o'clock, from the injuries she received in a fall about one week ago The funeral Will be held in St. Mary's Catholic church at this place next Monday morning at 9 o'clock, and burial will be made in the church yard cemetery. The fall of Mrs. Heinen received about a week ago was chronicled in the columns of the Daily Reporter last Wednesday, but at the time the correspondence was sent in it was not thought that her condition as so serious. It was while returning from a visit to Washburn that the accident happened that caused the death of the lady. She and Mrs. Jacob Thelen were riding on the rear end of a rig driven by Jacob Harig, Near the Jacob Thiery home there is a bad place in the road, and when the conveyance struck the place both ladies and the seat were thrown out, the occupants striking the ground with great force Mrs. Thelen suffered no injuries, from the accident, but her companion was not so fortunate. Mrs. Heinen was injured quite seriously. She was brought to her home here, and placed in the care of a physician at once. At first the injury appeared to be slight, but for several days prior to her death she suffered great pain, and it is thought that extensive injury was done internally, her death probably having been caused by bleeding. Probably no woman in Gilbertville was better known or had more earnest fiends than Mrs. Heinen. The family have resided in Poyner Township for years, coming here in an early day and settling on a tract of land two miles northeast of here, where they resided until their children had become grown and themselves had accumulated enough property to keep them through the remainder of their life. A few years ago Mr. and Mrs. Heinen moved to this place, and have resided here surrounded by their friends and enjoyed the comfort that comes from a life well spent. Both the old people are members of St. Mary's Catholic church at this place. They have been regular attendants and devout worshippers and have given a great deal of assistance in church work in the past. Mrs. Heinen was the mother of seven children - five girls and two boys, all of whom are living. The death of Mrs. Heinen marks the loss of the last of the head of the Heinen family, Mrs. Heinen being the wife of the man who so mysteriously disappeared from his home here several weeks ago. It will be recalled that Mr. Heinen was missed along about the first of March. Search was instituted, and his watch was found on the river bank near here. This evidence appeared to point to suicide by drowning, but at that time the river was so high that little could be done in the way of finding the body. It was hoped that as soon as the waters of the Cedar had subsided to their normal level the missing man could be found, but up to the present time there is no trace of the man, and the relatives and friends have about given up hope of ever seeing him again. Rewards have been offered, the river has been dragged again and again, the country has been scoured, and relatives living at a distance have been communicated with. The work has been in vain. Valentine Heinen had disappeared as though the earth has swallowed him. It is thought the anxiety caused over the loss of her husband preyed upon the mind of Mrs. Heinen and had a greater effect upon her than the injuries she received in the accident. ----------------------- From her husband's obit - The surviving children are: Mrs. Peter Bahl of Washburn; Mrs. John Demuth of Fox Township, this county; Mrs. Peter Schmitt of Waucoma, Iowa; William of Raymond and Nick of this place. A daughter, Mrs. Math Demuth died last fall.
