Description	:	Anna Mae Szymanski, 99, of Reynolds, ND, died March 30, 2012, at the Benedictine Living Center in Garrison, ND. Anna Mae Rakoczy was born on June 8, 1912, near Krakow, Poland. She was the second daughter of Anton and Mary (Christopher) Rakoczy. In 1913, her father immigrated to the United States, to buy a farm. The war in Europe prevented Anna and her mother and sister from leaving Poland. Read More	Anna Mae Szymanski, 99, of Reynolds, ND, died March 30, 2012, at the Benedictine Living Center in Garrison, ND. Anna Mae Rakoczy was born on June 8, 1912, near Krakow, Poland. She was the second daughter of Anton and Mary (Christopher) Rakoczy. In 1913, her father immigrated to the United States, to buy a farm. The war in Europe prevented Anna and her mother and sister from leaving Poland. In 1917, Anna's older sister died during the influenza pandemic which swept through Europe, In 1923, Anna and her mother were allowed to immigrate, and after passing through Ellis Island, NY, joined her father Anton, who now owned a farm near Reynolds, ND. Anna lived in Reynolds with her mother, father, and 5 brothers and sisters until 1935. She left the farm and went to Chicago to work as a governess for the Erlich family. While working in Chicago, she met Edward Szymanski and they were married on January 27, 1940. Anna and Edwards first child was a girl, JoAnn, who died in childbirth. Son, James, was born in 1943, shortly before Edward was drafted into the Army. He served as a combat infantryman in the South Pacific until 1946, when he was discharged. In 1976, Edward retired from U.S. Steel Corp. in south Chicago, and Anna and Edward moved to Reynolds, ND. Edward died in 1993. Anna lived with her sister, Lottie, for several years, and later moved to Minot to live her son, James, and his family. In 2009, Anna broke her hip and moved to the Benedictine Living Center in Garrison, ND, where she passed away at the age of 99. Anna is survived by her son, James (Marian) Szymanski, Minot, ND; grandchildren, Sue Ann (Joe) Bichler, Phoenix, AZ, Anthony Szymanski, Minot, ND, Michael (Kila) Szymanski, Bismarck, ND; great grandchildren, Jeramie and Jessica Bichler, Mia and Liam Szymanski; brother, John (Dorothy) Rakoczy; sisters, Sophine (Eugene) Adams and Lottie Breidenbach; sister-in-law, Mary Ann Rakoczy and many nephew and nieces. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter, older sister Sophie; brothers, Walther and Joseph; brothers and sisters-in-law, Virgil, Vincent, Edward, Eva, Ted, and Anne. Mass of Christian Burial: 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 4, 2012 in Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, Reynolds, ND. Visitation: 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday with a 4:30 rosary service and a 7:00 p.m. vigil service all in the church in Reynolds. Visitation will continue for one hour before the mass on Wednesday at the church. Burial: Calvary Cemetery, Reynolds, ND
