Description	:	Anna Mae Van Deest, 89, died Saturday, Sept. 5, 2009, at the Good Samaritan Center in Sioux Falls. Funeral services were held Saturday at Bethel Reformed Church in Davis. Officiating at the service was Pastor Ed Kaltenbach. Honorary pallbearers were Peggy and Wayne Taylor, Carol Van Deest, Ray and Dan Van Deest, Bob and Sandy Van Deest, Roya Smith, Ann Herrboldt, and Howard Olson. Anna Mae Van Deest was born in Davis, SD on Nov. 25, 1919, the eldest child and only daughter of William and Jacoba (VanNingen) Van Deest. She attended and graduated from Davis Public School. Later she attended Sioux Falls College and taught in rural and town schools for 14 years. In 1972 she started to work for Dakota Industries in Hurley, then transferred to Tea Industries and later Advance Creative Products in Viborg, retiring in 1990. Anna Mae was a lifelong member of Bethel Reformed Church in Davis and enjoyed teaching Sunday School for many years. She was a member of the Davis American Legion Auxiliary for a number of years. She was an avid reader and a lover of nature, which she inherited from her mother. She enjoyed music, especially classical, and loved to sew. She was preceded in death by her father, William, in 1934, her mother, Jacoba, in 1969; two sisters-in-law: Ray's wife, Lois, in 1984 and Orval's wife, Violet, in 2002, plus a special cousin, Margaret Van Deest, in 2002. She is survived by her three brothers: brother, Ray Van Deest of Sioux Falls and his family: Peggy (Wayne) Taylor and their children: Mandy, Jenny and Eric and Dan (Angela) Van Deest and their children: James, Anna and Evan; brother, Bennie (Nannette) Van Deest of Greeley, CO and his family: Brad and Nannelle; brother, Orval Van Deest of Lead, SD and his family: Bob (Sandy) Van Deest and their children: Jeremy, Andy and Sara and William (Carol) Van Deest; plus cousins, other relatives and friends.
