Description	:	Mary was the daughter of Johann Gruen and Catharine Weicher. She immigrated in 1883. She married Wendel Liewer on Feb 19, 1884 in Carroll, Iowa. They were the parents of Barbara and Anna. May 29, 1929 - Carroll Times - Mrs. Wendel Liewer, mother of Mrs. Joe O'Herron of this city, died at the Home for the Aged, West Point, Neb., Tuesday evening, May 21, at 8 o'clock. Read More	Mary was the daughter of Johann Gruen and Catharine Weicher. She immigrated in 1883. She married Wendel Liewer on Feb 19, 1884 in Carroll, Iowa. They were the parents of Barbara and Anna. May 29, 1929 - Carroll Times - Mrs. Wendel Liewer, mother of Mrs. Joe O'Herron of this city, died at the Home for the Aged, West Point, Neb., Tuesday evening, May 21, at 8 o'clock. Death was caused by kidney trouble and the infirmites of old age. Although Mrs. Liewer had been a semi-invalid for the last ten years, the result of a fall when she sustained a broken hip, her last illness was of only a few days duration. Mrs. Liewer, as Mary Grun, was born in Erdorf, Germany, December 23, 1849. In the year 1883, she came to this country with her parents and settled in Clinton county. From there she came to Carroll, and was married in this city February 19, 1884, to Wendel Liewer. To this union two children were born, Mrs. W.B. Loeltz of Dedham, and Mrs. Joe O'Herron of this city. From the time of her marriage until two months before her death, when she entered the Home for the Aged at West Point, Mrs. Liewer made her home in Carroll. Mr. Liewer passed away at his home in this city February 11, 1927. Surviving Mrs. Liewer are her two daughters, Mrs. W.B. Loeltz of Dedham, and Mrs. Joe O'Herron, and four step-children: M.T. Liewer, Crofton, Neb.; P.W. Liewer, Hartington, Neb.; Sister M. DeVota, New Vienna, Ia.; Mrs. P.J. Kalb, Dyersville, Ia. One step-daughter, Mrs. P.J. Koll of Carroll, passed away four years ago. P.W. Liewer and wife accompanied the body to Carroll and funeral services were held Saturday morning, May 25, at 9 o'clock at Ss. Peter and Paul's church, Rev. L. Schenkelberg officiating. Burial was made in the parish cemetery. In the death of Mrs. Liewer one of the good mothers of Carroll has gone to her reward. She was a devout member of SS. Peter,and Paul's church of this city and of the Rosary sodality. Mrs. Llewer bore her suffering patiently and uncomplainingly, and was a woman It was a pleasure and inspiration to know. She was kindly and gentle by nature, and lived a worthy and useful life. Mrs. Liewer was the last of her family.. She was one of five sisters, all of whom have preceded her in death. Relatives from a distance who attended the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. W.B. Loeltz of Dedham; Mr. and Mrs. P.W. Liewer of Hartington, Neb.; Mr. and Mrs. M.T. Liewer of Crofton, Neb.
