Read More	IOWA PIONEER PASSES AWAY Mrs. Anna Marie Pecks Came to This County Fifty-two Years Ago HAD A GREAT VITALITY Compelled to Use Wheel Chair Past Eight Years Mrs. Anna Marie Pecks, a resident of Plymouth County for fifty-five years, died at her home, 300 Fifth Avenue NW, Sunday night. Death was due to heart failure. She was taken sick December 17, the day before her birthday. Mrs. Pecks had lived in Le Mars since 1912, when she and her daughter, Annie, left the farm in Grant Township to make their home here. Eight years ago Mrs. Pecks suffered the loss of one of her legs above the knee, amputation being necessary to prevent spread of gangrene. Ten months later the other leg was removed for a similar reason. Since that time Mrs. Pecks got about by means of a wheel chair. Although handicapped by the loss of her limbs, Mrs. Pecks did her housework and took part in the community activities and was cheerful and enjoyed life in a great measure. Early Settler In Iowa Annie Marie Mammen was born December 18, 1844, in Hohenkirchen, Oldenburg, Germany, where she grew to young womanhood. She was united in marriage with William Pecks in 1866, and lived in Jones county until 1870 and then came to Plymouth county where they were among the first settlers in Grant Township and went through the vicissitudes experienced by the pioneers in grasshopper days. Eight children were born to their union. They are Mrs. Sam Eilers, Brunsville; Annie Pecks, living at home; Henry, William, Ben and Gerd, all residing in this county. One daughter, Mrs. Peter Reese, and one son, Fred Pecks, preceded her in death. Mrs. Pecks was a member of St. John's Lutheran church and a member of the Ladies Aid society of that organization. She was devoted wife and mother and combatted physical drawbacks with a cheerfulness and courage which won admiration from her friends. Burial In Grant The funeral services will be held Wednesday afternoon at one o'clock at St. John's Lutheran church, Rev. J.J. Vollmar officiating, and the interment will be made in the Grant township cemetery where other members of her family lie burled. .
