Burial will be in Ashley City Cemetery. Pastor Gerald J. Deppa will officiate. Anna died November 3, 2015 at Ashley Nursing Home. Anna Maria Walker, daughter of Jakob and Karolina (Heupel) Weisser was born October 25, 1931 at Wishek, ND. She graduated from Ashley High School as salutatorian of her class in 1948. She then attended Ellendale Normal and Industrial College and earned a Second Grade Elementary Teaching Certificate. She taught at a rural school in Iowa School District, east of Ashley, over the next two years, 1948-1950. She then served as Deputy County Superintendent of Schools in McIntosh County for one year. Anna was united in marriage to Elroy Harvey Walker on October 15, 1950 in Ashley Baptist Church. They made their first home in Enterprise, Alabama where Elroy was stationed in the United States Army. Following the end of the Korean War, they returned to Ashley. In 1953, she was employed with the ASCS program of the USDA which she held until her retirement on March 31, 1992. During her career, she worked the Price Support Program and was recognized for her expertise and appointed to the State Office Review Team. After her retirement, she was a member of National Association of Retired Federal Employees. Anna was a very organized person and was very creative and artistic. She enjoyed making crafts and competitive bowling, participating in several State Women’s Bowling Tournaments. Anna was a wonderful baker and a great cook, making excellent German food. She was a member of Ashley Baptist Church where she had been active in the choir, a Sunday school teacher and served on many committees. She was a former member of Extension Homemaker’s Club and was a past president of American Legion Auxiliary. Grateful for having shared Anna’s life are her children, Richard (Sharon) Walker of Lake Park, MN, Valerie (Denny) Hoffman of Ashley, ND, Karla (Kevin) Morrow of Brookings, SD and Lisa (Anthony) Neu of Ashley, ND; six grandchildren, Daniel (April) Hildebrand of Washburn, ND, Andrew (Emily) Walker of Fargo, ND, Lianna Morrow of Bloomington, MN, Keighley Morrow of Brookings, SD, Kendra Neu of Ashley, ND and Jakob Neu of Ashley, ND; great-granddaughter, Lucy Walker; and sisters, Lorraine (Reinie) Dockter of Ashley, ND, Eleanora Sackmann of Bismarck, ND, Mavis Gall of Fargo, ND and Lillian Dobler of Bismarck, ND. Preceding Anna in death were her parents, husband, Elroy (8-7-2011) and ten brothers and sisters. Casketbearers will be Anna’s grandchildren, Daniel Hildebrand, Andrew Walker, Lianna Morrow, Keighley Morrow, Kendra Neu and Jakob Neu. Carlsen Funeral Home of Ashley has been entrusted with arrangements.
