Hewitt, which occurred at the family home in this city, Tuesday, removed from our midst another of the pioneer citizens of Nebraska. Anna M. Wildman was born in Mahaska County, Iowa, August 10, 1844. With the exception of a short period of time, during the civil war when she resided in Ohio, she lived in Iowa until her marriage to Joseph M. Hewitt, in February 1867. She, with her husband, came to Nebraska in the spring of 1872 and settled on a homestead, across the river from where Central City now stands. They continued to reside there until 1910, when they moved to Grand Island. In December 1916, they came to Red Cloud. She was one of the pioneer citizens of Iowa as well as Nebraska and had experienced the hardships know only to our pioneers. She was one of the charter members of the LaCelde Baptist Church, which is now know as the Polk Baptist Church. She is survived by her husband; three sons, E.P. of Omaha, I.M. of Scotts Bluff and W.C. of Minatate; two daughters, Mrs. Mary Hotchkiss of Colorado Springs and Mrs. W.D. Edson of this city. Four children preceded their mother to the Great Beyond. A short funeral service will be held at the home Friday morning after which the remains will be taken to Central City for interment.
