DEATH OF A PIONEER WOMAN Mrs. Anna Monroe Chisholm Dies At Home of Her Daughter In Blue Lake SHE CAME TO THIS COUNTY IN 1853 The Aged Lady Suffered a Stroke of Paralysis Last June, From Which She Never Recovered —Funeral Sunday Blue Lake Advocate, Volume 34, Number 25, 15 October 1921 Mrs. Anna Monroe Chisholm, one of the best known of the early day residents of Humboldt county, died Friday evening, October 7th, at about 8 o'clock at the home of her daughter, . Mrs. Joseph C. Worthington, in Blue Lake. She was 81 years of age and had been failing in health for the past two years. She was stricken with paralysis last June, from which she never recovered. Mrs. Chisholm was a native of Michigan, and came to Humboldt county from Trinity county in 1853, making her a resident of this county more than 68 years. She was married in 1855 at Table Bluff to the late Alonzo Monroe, and of this union live sons and one daughter survive, namely: J. P. Monroe, A. J. Monroe, William Monroe, all of Eureka; H. P, Monroe of Carlotta; Charles Monroe, formerly of Ferndale and now residing in Nevada; and Mrs. Jennie Worthington of Blue Lake. J. P. Monroe, the eldest child, was born at Table Bluff, and A. J. Monroe at Hydesville, where Mr. and Mrs. Monroe resided for a time. In 1860 they moved from the latter place to Eureka and the past 61 years had practically been spent in Eureka by Mrs. Monroe. For the past 25 years until four months ago, when she came to Blue Lake, Mrs. Monroe had made her home in the Cutten-McDonald Tract, Eureka. Throughout her long life Mrs. Monroe was a member of the Congregational church and was prominent as a church worker. The funeral was held Sunday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock from the Sanders funeral parlors, Eureka, Rev. W. D. Ogg officiating. Interment was at Myrtle Grove cemetery.
