Description	:	Anna Marie (Christiansen) Neuhaus, 93 June 15, 1926 ~ August 12, 2019 Anna Marie was born June 15, 1926 in Papillion, Nebraska to Christian and Anna Marie (Sievertsen) Christiansen. She was the youngest of eleven children. On July 18, 1926, she was baptized at Friedens Lutheran Church (now called Trinity Lutheran) in Papillion, and in her early teens was confirmed there as well. She attended school in Papillion, playing cornet in the Papillion High School band. After school, she worked at several jobs in the Sarpy County, Nebraska area. She was the youngest of eleven children. On July 18, 1926, she was baptized at Friedens Lutheran Church (now called Trinity Lutheran) in Papillion, and in her early teens was confirmed there as well. She attended school in Papillion, playing cornet in the Papillion High School band. After school, she worked at several jobs in the Sarpy County, Nebraska area. She met her future husband, Wally, at a dance at the Milrose Ballroom, where he noticed her visiting with a friend who was married to Wally's cousin. Wally asked if his cousin would introduce her, and they began dating. Ann and Wally were married on September 1946 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Papillion. They were blessed with two children: Muriel in 1947 and Wes in 1951. She quickly learned that the role of a farm wife was a busy one, preparing as many as five meals and snacks a day during busy hay baling and corn shelling days, but she seemed to revel in it. She was an excellent cook and baker and no one ever left her home hungry. In his later years, when Wally suffered from a number of health problems, she was a loving and dedicated care-giver to him. Ann was a woman of great faith. She believed in the power of prayer, and taught her children the same. She was active at Zion Lutheran in Omaha, and taught Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, sang in the choir and was a member of the Lydia women's Circle. She enjoyed dances at Peony Park in Omaha, Nebraska; playing pinochle in her card club, and league bowling at Elkhorn, Nebraska Lanes, golfing and being a member of her extension club. Ann was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother and cherished the times with her family as they did with her. She doted on her granddaughters and great-grandson, attending many of their activities, and having fun times playing with them. She passed away at age 93 at her home in Ridgewood Assisted Living in Bennington, NE. She was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Wallace; her parents; four sisters and six brothers. Left to cherish her memory are her daughter Murial (Jerry) Vidlak of Lincoln, NE; her son Wes (Joan) Neuhaus of Omaha, NE; granddaughters Wendy Vidlak (Jess Holle) of Vadnais Heights, MN; Nancy (Kelly) Macke of Lincoln, NE; Kate Neuhaus of Chicago, IL; great-grandson Nathan Holle of San Jose, CA; sister-in-law Millie Christiansen of Gretna, NE; numerous nieces and nephews. Following this meeting, Miss Mary-Ellen Brown proposed the first state-wide Home Extension organization for Nebraska. The Nebraska Council of Home Extension Clubs held its first annual meeting on June 15-16, 1937 at the Pawnee Hotel in North Platte, Nebraska. The club has been known by two other names: the Nebraska Home Demonstration Council and the Nebraska Homemakers' Council. The Nebraska Council of Home Demonstration Clubs was to be an affiliate of the National Home Demonstration Council as well as an affiliate of the International Country Women of the World. The Council's organizational goals focused on education, and improving the well-being and unity of country-women. It also worked to promote women in Nebraska history, from pioneer women to the more recent prominent women who have come from Nebraska. The Council was involved in 4-H clubs, and "promote[s] rural health activities, and encourage[s] spiritual life in the home" (Secretary's book, 1942).
