Anna Marie was born April 17, 1918 on a farm north of Mandan in Morton County, to Joseph and Marion (Feininger) Heck. She was educated in country schools and in 1929 moved north of Bismarck. She finished school in 1935 and moved to Bismarck with her mother to seek employment as a housekeeper. In 1940 she worked for Armour Creamery. On Nov. 17, 1942 she married Ignatius Joe Balzer. There were five children born to this union. Ignatius died Oct. 7, 1952. Anna Marie went back to work after her husband's death doing housework, while her mother and sister took care of the children after school. In 1970 she moved in with her mother to help care for her until her death. From 1975 to 1980 she was employed by Q&R Clinic until she retired. In December 1986 she moved to Mandan to live with her sister where she resided until her death. Anna Marie enjoyed gardening, traveling and visiting with her family. She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Mary Ann and Frank Lowery, Rancho Cordova, Calif. and Caroline and Charles Kaelberer, New Salem; three sons and daughters-in-law, Joe and Susan, Canyon Lake, Texas, Don and Merry, Renton, Wash., and Steve and Karen, Bismarck; two sisters, Sister Evala Heck, Bismarck, and Elizabeth Braun, Mandan; one brother and three sisters-in-law, Jack and Sally Heck, Everett, Wash., Florentina Heck, Centralia, Wash., and Vange Balzer, Bismarck; 13 grandchildren, Tracy (Rick) Swanson, Steve (Amber) Balzer, Franky (Thelma) Lowery, B.J. (Katherine) Lowery, Danny Lowery, Tanya Lopez, Kim (Todd) Bison, Mitchell (Melissa) Balzer, Nicki (Jeff) Trauger, Stephanie Balzer, Trisha Kaelberer, Rachelle (Clay) Erickson, and Jesse Kaelberer; and 12 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ignatius Joe Balzer; three sisters; three brothers; and one grandson, Wade Balzer.
