From Nevada Journal March 22, 1961 (page 3) Funeral Services Are Held At Ryans Monday For Mr. and Mrs. Lew Larson Annie Marie Larson was born in Nevada, Iowa Feb. 15, 1886, the daughter of Chris and Caroline Nelson. She attended school in Story County. She died Thursday, March 16, 1961. Lew Larson was born June 4, 1885 in Story County, the son of Enos and Marn Larson. She attended Story County schools. He died Thursday, March 16, 1961. Annie Marie Nelson and Lew Larson were married in Boone in 1905. They were the parents of six children, two sons and four daughters all of whom survive. They are: Clifford C. of Nevada, Alvin E. of Sun Valley, Calif., Mrs. Arlo (Bessie) McAtee of Nevada, Mrs. Durwood (Lillian) Berns of San Valley, Calif., Mrs. Ray (Ethel) Sills, San Fernando, Calif. and Mrs. Marvin (Illabelle) Edge. of Clovis, Calif. They also leave 38 grandchildren and 49 great grandchildren. Two grandchildren and two great grandchildren preceded them in death. Mrs. Larson also is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Emma Warner of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Mrs. Lee (Sina) Hoel of Nevada, two brothers, R. Fred Nelson of Des Moines and Hans Nelson of McCallsburg. One brother, Carl Nelson, and one sister, Mrs. O. C. Melohn, preceded her in death. Mr. Larson was preceded in death by his parents. Services Funeral services for Annie Marie and Lew Larson were held at the Ryan Funeral Home Monday, March 20, 1961, at 2:00 p. m. with the Rev. Victor Hackbarth of Memorial Lutheran Church officiating. Leslie Henderson, organist, accompanied Mrs. Mary Pevestorf, soloist, when she sang, "Beyond the Sunset" and "In the Garden." The many beautiful floral offerings were cared for by Mrs. A. M. George and Mrs. M. E. Hall. Casket bearers were Raymond Ackerman, Kermit Anderson, J. J. Donnellan, Henry Erickson, Glen Groomes, Jr., M. E. Hall, Gilbert Henry, Dillard Lowe, Phil Miller, Lloyd Shickell, Laurence Spears and Bill Tipton. Burial was in the Nevada cemetery. Relatives from a Distance Attend Larson Services Relatives from a distance attending the funeral services for Mr. and Mrs. Lew Larson, which were held Monday at the Ryan Funeral Home were: their daughter, Mrs. Marvin Edge of Clovis, Calif., their daughters and sons-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Durwood Berns, Sun Valley, Calif., Mr. and Mrs. Roy Sills, San Fernando, Calif., their son, Alvin Larson of Sun Valley, Calif., grandson, Clifford Larson Jr. of Anaheim, Calif. Also Mrs. Alice Larson, Clovis, N. M., Mr. and Mrs. John Nelson, Champaign, Ill., Mrs. Bert Warner, Colorado Springs, Colo., Mr. and Mrs. R. Fred Nelson, Des Moines, Hans Nelson, of McCallsburg. Others were from Stanhope, Zearing, Hubbard, Ames, Newton, Belmond, Radcliffe, Melbourne, Norwalk and Adair. From unknown newspaper March 17, 1961 An elderly Nevada couple were found shot to death early today. The deaths were ruled murder and suicide by Dr. K. S. Sun, Story County medical examiner. The bodies of Lew Larson, 75, and his estranged wife, Mary, 75, were discovered in Mrs. Larson's home shortly after 3 a. m. today by a neighbor. Shotgun Story County Sheriff Ivan Shalley said the cause of death in both cases was a blast from a shotgun, believed to have belonged to Larson. Shalley said Mrs. Larson had started divorce proceedings against her husband and that he had been liveing at another residence in Nevada pending a restraining order. The sheriff said Larson had told friends his wife would never get a divorce from him. Shalley said the probable time of the murder-suicide was between 7 and 9 p.m. Thursday. A relative was at Mrs. Larson's home at about 7 p.m. At 7:30 p.m., Mrs. Henry Erickson phoned Mrs. Larson and geto no answer. Mrs. Erickson awakened about 2:30 a.m. today, saw the lights on and called twice more. Receiving no answer, the went to the Larson home to investigate and discovered the couple. Mrs. Erickson called Nevada police, who notified the Sheriff. Set Services Private funeral services for the couple will be held from the Ryan funeral home Monday. Burial will be in the Nevada municipal cemetery. Survivors include two son, Clifford of Nevada, and Alvin, of Sun Valley, Calif.; four daughters, Mrs. Bessie M. McAttee of Nevada, Mrs. Lillian Berns and Mrs. Ethel Sills of Sun Valley, Calif. and Mrs. Isabelle Edge, Bosbalos, Calif. Mrs. Larson is also survived by two brothers and two sisters. She was preceded in death by an infant child, one brother and one sister.
