Anna Marie Shanley Cline was born March 24, 1923 in Shelton, Nebraska and died November 5, 2017 in Kearney, Nebraska. Anna Marie was the second youngest of 12 children born to Thomas Patrick and Gertrude Belle Montgomery Shanley. All of her siblings preceded her in death and she lived the longest to age 94. After growing up and completing high school in Shelton, she followed her sweetheart, Charles Eugene (Gene) Cline, who was in the Navy to California. They were married July 22, 1942 in Las Vegas, Nevada. Their greatest joy was adopting a baby girl at Christmas in1953, who they named Judith Ann after Anna Marie’s grandmother Montgomery. They lived in several places in California but the one she liked best was their ranch near Auburn, where they kept horses. She was a strong, independent woman because her husband, an over-the-road truck driver, was often gone for a week or two at a time. Her extended family and friends loved sharing her delicious chicken and homemade noodles. Her basket of yarn was never far from her chair and she crocheted countless beautiful projects, seldom using a pattern, which she gave as gifts and for charity. As the younger daughter she was the rock that her young brothers, as well as many of her nieces and nephews relied upon. Several of Gene’s nephews found a welcoming home away from home with Anna Marie and Gene when they were in the military and stationed on the West Coast. Those nephews encouraged Anna Marie returned to Nebraska a few years after Gene’s death. She lived first at the Colony Acres in Gibbon, and later at Homestead in Kearney until her death. Mourning her death are her beloved daughter and son-in-law, Judy and Richard Wright, her granddaughters, Allyson Desjarlais and Tara Wright, and great-grandchildren Dakota and Richard Desjarlais all of Pawtucket, Rhode Island, as well as numerous nieces and nephews and friends.
