Anna Freitag was born on September 27, 1866 at Peru, Illinois. She came to Marys- ville, Kansas at the age of ten with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Casper Freitag and lived in this vicinity until the family moved to Logan, Kansas, where on July 10, 1886 she was married to Henry Mentgen. After two years they returned to Marysville and resided nearby until recent years when they retired to their home in Frankfort. their 55th wedding anniversary was very pleasantly observed last summer with nearly all of the family present. To this union eleven children were born, five sons and five daughters attended the funeral with Father J.P. Reich of St. Gregory’s officiating. Surviving are her husband, Henry; her daughters, Mrs. Phillip Tommer, Frankfort Kansas, Mrs. Wm. Taylor, Steinaurer, Nebraska, Mrs. Wm. Murphy, Hugo, Colo. Mrs. Frank Fouracre, Wamego, Kansas, Mrs. Fremont Charboneau, Concordia, Kansas; her sons, George Mentgen, Lincoln Nebraska, Mathias Mentgen, Blue Rapids, Kansas, John Mentgen, Marysville, Kansas, Paul Mentgen, Blue Rapids, Peter Mentgen, Concordia, Kansas, Phillip Mentgen, Waterville, Kansas; forty-two grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren; her sisters, Mrs. Kate Koppes, Marysville, Kansas and Mrs. Hannah Mentgen, Sterling, Colorado, Mrs. Otto Schauble, Canby, Oregon, and one brother, John Fretig, Nampa, Idaho. A lifelong member of the Catholic Church Interment was in the St. Gregory’s Cemetery, Marysville, Kansas.
