Schmedtjen, 92, a longtime Norway Center resident, passed away early Thursday morning at her home in Cumberland where she had resided for the past several years. The daughter of John and Marie Bannick Aldag, she was born October 27, 1894 four miles west of Norway Center and lived in the area her entire life. Schmedtjen, 92, a longtime Norway Center resident, passed away early Thursday morning at her home in Cumberland where she had resided for the past several years. The daughter of John and Marie Bannick Aldag, she was born October 27, 1894 four miles west of Norway Center and lived in the area her entire life. She attended Gold Hill country school four miles west of Norway Center and the German school located at the present site of the First Lutheran Church. She was married to Henry Schmedtjen on February 24, 1915 at her parent's home and they farmed southwest of Norway Center on the Schmedtjen family farm. She lived there until moving to Cumberland several years ago. She was a member of First Lutheran Church south of Wiota. She is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Clifford (Luella) Haselhuhn of Melcher, Mrs. Dorothy Sunderman of Des Moines and Hazel Schmedtjen of the Atlantic Care Center; two grandchildren, Gene C. Sunderman of Des Moines and Kenneth L. Haselhuhn of Dallas, Iowa; three great grandchildren, Kyle, Adam and Nicole Haselhuhn; three sisters, Mrs. Adolph (Martha) Kaiser of Medford, Oregon, Mrs. Marie Porter of Cumberland and Mrs. Esley (Lillian) Sisson of Oakland City, Indiana; and two brothers, Johnny and Roy Aldag of Wiota. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in 1960; a daughter Iona at the age of six; and a sister, Alma McCurdy. Memorial from Roland Funeral Service, Atlantic, Iowa.
