Description	:	Anna Rees Brown was the younger daughter of Lydia Ann (née Lukens) and posthumously of Kansas anti-slavery martyr Rees Perkins Brown. After her father's murder on 18 January 1856, Anna's mother and sister Samantha Evangeline (not yet 3 years old) traveled to Hardin County, Ohio, where Anna's mother's parents lived. Anna was born there on 16 July 1856. Lydia Ann Brown remarried on 6 August 1857 in Hardin County, and later settled in Fountain County, Indiana. "Reese Anna Brown" and James A. Surles were married on 30 January 1884 in Newburg Township, Cass County, Michigan. The couple later moved to Polk County, Iowa.
