The remains were brought here Monday night for funeral services at St. Mary's Catholic church, Salem, SD. Msgr. B. Weber sang the requiem high mass Wednesday morning. The pallbearers were Matt Schmitt, Frank Ahern, Henry Tuschen, Henry Hipschman, Lew Lunders and Charles McShane. Anna Duclas was born on June 15, 1861 at St. Lucas, Iowa, to Mr. and Mrs. Math Duclas. She was married to John Bies on February 24, 1878 and about 5 years later the family moved to this community. Twelve children were born to their union, four of whom died in infancy. Those living are six daughters, Sr. M. Regula, O.S.F., Bertha, Margaret, Mary, Juliana and Philomene; and two sons, Theodore and John M. Mr. Bies preceded his wife in death on May 16, 1920. Mrs. Bies made her home here until about a year ago when she went to Hoven, SD to live with her daughter, Mrs. Mary Lunders. In November of this year, the lady fell and fractured her hip and from that time on her health gradually failed until she died one month later at the age of 82 years, six months and three days. She leaves to mourn her eight children, Sister Mary Regula of Peru, Illinois; Mrs. Jake Lunders of Hoven, SD; Mrs. Juliana Lunders of Seattle, Washington; Mrs. Roy Bruhn of Long Beach, California; Mrs. Fred Lander of Baldwin Park, California; Mrs. Harvey Stafford of Santa Ana, California; Theodore and John M., of Salem, SD; 36 grandchildren and 31 great grandchildren. She was a lifelong and faithful member of the Catholic church and belonged to the Women's Catholic Order of Foresters, Christian Mothers and the Third Order of St. Francis. Mrs. Jake Lunders, Mrs. Juliana Lunders, Sister M. Regula and Mrs. Roy Bruhn were with their mother when she passed away and accompanied the remains to Salem, remaining here for the funeral on Wednesday. Other relatives attending the last rites were Mr. and Mrs. M. W. Wingen of Vancouver, Washington; Mr. and Mrs. Ted Lunders of Coon Rapids, Iowa; and Peter Winters of St. Lucas, Iowa.
