Mrs. Severeseike came to America in 1893, coming directly to Slater, where she had an Uncle. For a while, she worked as a housemaid in Des Moines, as most newcomer girls did. Mrs. Severeseike came to America in 1893, coming directly to Slater, where she had an Uncle. For a while, she worked as a housemaid in Des Moines, as most newcomer girls did. Then She fell in love -- that, too, like most newcomer girls and other girls are wont to de -- and she was married to L. K. Severseike, who then was a carpenter and at which trade he worked for many years, even after they settled on their own farm near Garden City. Mr. Severseike made a start at becoming a citizen nearly forty years ago, taking out his first papers -- and then let the matter drop. Mrs. Severesike has been a widow half a dozen years or so, and finally, the urge to become a genuine American drove her to take out her first papers two years ago and then finishing the job by passing a successful examination before the federal Judge in Des Moines. She with upwards to 150 other were granted their final papers Monday. Mrs. Severseike has five children and 11 grandchildren. And yesterday she celebrated her 72nd birthday.
