Description	:	Annabelle Augusta Eckstein, age 100, of Boone and the Eastern Star Masonic Home, died December 9, 2010, at the Boone County Hospital. Funeral services will be Wednesday, December 15, 2010, at 10:00 a.m. in the Chapel of the Eastern Star Masonic Home with Rev. Andrea Kraushaar officiating. Burial will be in the Linwood Park Cemetery. Annabelle was born in rural Boone on June 18, 1910, the daughter of August and Rebecca (Heitkamp) Eckstein. Burial will be in the Linwood Park Cemetery. Annabelle was born in rural Boone on June 18, 1910, the daughter of August and Rebecca (Heitkamp) Eckstein. She attended Boone County Schools and at the age of 15, began working for Northwestern Bell Telephone Company in Boone. Annabelle worked as a switchboard operator and clerk. She assigned the phone numbers when dial phones were introduced. She retired May 5, 1974, after 48 years of service. Annabelle was a long time member of the First United Methodist Church where she was active in the Church Choir and United Methodist Women. She was also a member of the Boone Women's Club and chorus, Boone Garden Club, AARP, Telephone Pioneers, the Judea White Shrine #16, Amaranth Friendship Court #6, and a lifetime member of Communication Workers of America. Annabelle enjoyed music, handwork, gardening, traveling, reading, and she loved children. Annabelle was preceded in death by her parents and a sister Pearl Scanlin. She is survived by cousins and many friends. Friends may call at the Chapel of the Eastern Star Masonic Home on Wednesday from 9:00 a.m. until service time. Memorials may be directed to the First United Methodist Church Foundation. Schroeder Memorial Chapel at Sixth and Marshall is in charge of arrangements.
