Anne Arline Arbogast, oldest daughter of Lyle and Margaret Kearns Arbogast, was born June 20, 1932 in Webster City. Growing up there, surrounded by friends and family, was a childhood filled with love and memories. The annual Halloween parties that her parents hosted for the neighborhood children were legendary. While attending school, Anne worked a variety of part-time jobs. One of her favorites was working at the Kendal Young Library. Anne was always an avid reader and a lifelong learner. She fostered a love for learning in all her children and grandchildren. After her graduation in 1950 from Lincoln High, Anne attended WC Community College and worked for the Daily Freeman Journal. While attending rural youth meetings with a friend, she met her future husband. This was one of the marriages between the “Kamrar boys” and the WC girls. On August 24, 1952 Anne was united in marriage to Weldon Tapper. The two farmed together until his death in 1986. Anne is preceded in death by her parents; husband; son-in-law, Fred Hakes and brother, Rev. Tom Arbogast. Anne is survived by her children, Nancy Hakes of Elgin, IL, MaryAnn (Jeff) Tapper Strawhacker of Johnston, Scott (Lisa) Tapper of Webster City; grandchildren, Matthew (Janae) Tapper, Mark (Hildi) Tapper, Kate Tapper, Kristen (Zach) Strawhacker Bonzer; four great-grandchildren; sister, Jean Pelz of Tucson, AZ and many relatives and friends. Anne was known for her handwritten letters and cards to bring cheer and encouragement. She never forgot a relative or friend’s birthday, anniversary, or special occasion. She was among the first to prepare food and deliver to community members during difficult times or drive a friend to medical appointments. She also enjoyed hosting gatherings in the new home she designed. Anne used her talent for cooking, while sharing her collections of pretty dishes and matching linens. During her lifetime, Anne was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church of Kamrar, where she served as the first women elder, UPW President, Circle chairman, and organized many missions and service projects. Anne was a member and officer of the Webster City Women’s Club, officer in the Independence Friendly Neighbors Club, and was honored for her involvement with Hamilton County Extension.
