Interment was in the Trinity Cemetery, Binford, ND. She died surrounded by her family at Cooperstown Medical Center April 28, 2004. Anne Bergit Rekstad was born October 6, 1909, on a homestead near Broadview, MT, to Pedar and Aagot (Hendrickson) Rekstad. When she was a young child, the family moved to rural Finley, ND, where she grew up and attended school. She attended Mayville (ND) State College and later taught in rural schools in Steele and Griggs counties. On June 14, 1934, she was united in marriage to Arthur Smogard in Finley and they made their home on a farm near Binford, ND. In 1976 they retired and moved into Binford. Arthur died November 18, 1997. Anne remained active in her home until April, 2003, when she entered the Cooperstown Medical Center-Nursing Home, Cooperstown, ND. Anne was very active throughout her life in many church and community activities. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Binford where she taught Sunday School for many years, sang in the church choir, and was an active member of the WELCA and a Bible study group. As her family was growing up, she was an active member of the PTA and other school activities. She was a member of the Binford Homemakers Club for many years. Anne and Arthur were married for 63 years. They enjoyed traveling during their life together, traveling throughout the United States and Europe and especially enjoyed visiting relatives in Norway. She loved entertaining gruests in her home. Anne is survived by three children; Marilyn (Richard) Bartholomay, Grand Junction, CO, Donna Evers, Binford, ND and Wayne (Marsha) Smogard, Fargo, ND; eight grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Art; her parents, Pedar and Aagot; one brother, and one son-in-law.
