Read More	Anne (with an 'e') was born on March 2, 1931 to Danish immigrants, Jacob and Mariane Thomsen in Drumheller. She passed away November 20, 2020 at the Rimbey Hospital. Anne was the first born of three girls. The first few years of her life were spent on a rented farm in the Dalum/Wayne area. This community had been settled by a large number of people of Danish heritage. Being a child of the 30's, life was not easy on the Canadian prairies which caused the family to move to another Danish community, west of Spruce View. She attended school at New Raven which was about a mile from her home. When Anne was 8 years old, her mother passed away leaving behind Anne and her two younger sisters, Ruth and Norma, who was just a baby. Being the oldest, Anne quickly had to take on the roll of mother, which she mastered at her young age. Going to an English school presented a challenge since the Danish language was the only one spoken at home and in her community. After walking home from school, Anne helped with the farm chores, assisted her Dad with making supper and helped care for her sisters. After supper she and her Dad would sit down and Anne shared with her Dad what she had learned in school, teaching him to speak, read and write English. Anne told about walking with her sisters, one being in a carriage, to her uncle and aunt's home which was close to the school, so that the two girls would be cared for while she was at school and her Dad was busy farming. In 1950, Anne met her future husband, Jim Bott, who had attended the New Raven Church with his sister Freda and her husband Gordon Gibson, who was the Church pastor. On November 8, 1950 she and Jim were married at New Raven. Anne moved to the farm that Jim had purchased a few years earlier from his uncle George Bott Sr. The farm was located in the Withrow area. In the fall of 1951, their first child Wesley was born, followed by Niel, Delores, Myles, Noreen and Ivan. Life for Anne again took on the roll of mother and farm wife. There was seldom a free moment for her, given that she was also surrounded by extended family on the 'Bott Road' and Leslieville. Life was simple but not always easy. The house was heated with wood, and there was no running water until 1966 when Anne and Jim moved into their new house. Anne was an excellent cook and baker. There was always enough food prepared to feed all unexpected visitors who may have showed up at meal time. The house was a gathering spot for card games and just fun fellowship for whoever may be there. There was always fresh coffee or tea and fresh baked buns or cookies for guests after the game of cards and laughter. During her years on the farm, Anne was an active member of the Withrow Gospel Mission and served as the Church treasurer for many years. She was involved with the local Home & School Association and loyally attended and volunteered with the Leslieville Women's Institute. In 1969 Anne and Jim were awarded the 'Farm Family Award'. With six children in 11 years, it was sometimes a challenge to have everyone presentable before going to any function, especially Sunday morning church. Upon arrival at the destination, Anne would make sure that everyone looked their best. She would straighten everyone's collars, pull up pants, and the final touch was to take a kleenex from her purse, spit on it, and proceed to wipe the last of breakfast from the kid's faces (starting with the youngest, working way to the oldest); the same order as Saturday night baths. After some of her children had left home, Anne allowed 3 to 5 young men (who wanted to make it rich in the Alberta oilfields) live in her home. She cooked them breakfast and supper every day and also prepared a bagged lunch for each of them. She did their laundry, washing up to 20 pairs of jeans weekly, and then ironed them! Anne and Jim enjoyed their retirement years. They were able to spend 6 weeks in Denmark which they very much enjoyed. It was very helpful for Jim to have an interpreter with him, he was never able to grasp the Danish language. Anne had corresponded with letters to many relatives in Denmark for most of her life, so meeting them in person was for sure a major highlight for Anne. A camper and later a motorhome was purchased by Anne and Jim, that took them on countless trips to the west country, through much of B.C. and also to Alaska. They were often accompanied on trips by neighbors, friends or relatives. Anne and Jim enjoyed many adventures and regular activities with the Leslieville Seniors' Club. Anne served on various positions within that organization. In 2009, Anne and Jim moved to Eckville Manor House as Jim's health was failing. They had sold the farm to Niel & Pat and Ron & Delores. Anne remained living at the Manor until her passing. Life was great for Anne at the Manor as she never had to cook another meal. It allowed her to master the crafts that she had honed her entire life; quilting, knitting, crochet, sewing and hand stitching baby quilts. Many people benefitted from Anne's love for crafts. All of Anne's children believe that they were the luckiest kids in the world to have the best parents and growing up in a home that was always full of love and laughter. Anne was predeceased by her husband Jim, parents Jacob and Mariane Thomsen, sister Ruth Wells, daughter-in-law Clara and many brothers and sisters in-law. She is survived by daughters Delores (Ron) Misner and Noreen (Pete) Smith; sons Wesley, Niel (Pat), Myles (Marie) and Ivan (Laurie), as well as 20 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren. Anne also leaves to mourn her sister Norma Bigam, sisters-in-law Donna Pattison, Myrtle Finkbeiner and Isabelle Bott; brothers-in law-Ralph Wells, Eddie (Dorothy) Bott and Max Bott (Mary Fox). She leaves behind many nieces and nephews.
