Read More	Daughter of Sheldon Brown and Barbara Perkins. Annette F. Brown, 58, a shoe worker who was known for looking after others, died Tuesday at her home on Ellsworth Street in Portland. Miss Brown spent most of her working career as a hand lacer at shoe factories in the Skowhegan area and in Westbrook. She lived in Athens for many years and worked for the former Norrwock Shoe Co. in Skowhegan. Miss Brown moved to the Portland area 15 years ago, and retired from the shoe industry in 1989 after her leg was amputated because of complications from diabetes. She was described by others as a generous, hard worker who enjoyed most the time she spent with her family and friends, especially her grandchildren. ''She was never married,'' said her daughter, Robyn Cobb. ''She not only raised four children on her own, but she also helped raise her grandchildren. She worked very hard and made a lot of sacrifices.'' ''Her children and grandchildren were her life,'' said Miss Brown's sister, Evon Heatley. ''Everything she did revolved around them.'' ''Even though she had a very tough life, she never let it get her down,'' said her daughter. Cobb described her mother as a caring woman who went out of the way to see that poor children in the neighborhood were fed. ''Everybody that knew her either called her 'Ma' or 'Nana,' '' said Cobb. ''She would never buy anything for herself, because she was always too worried about others.'' When Miss Brown came to Portland, she first lived in Kennedy Park, a low-income housing project in East Bayside. ''She took some of the neighbors' kids under her wing and always made sure they ate,'' said her daughter. ''After they grew up - to this day - they respected her very much.'' Born in Athens, a daughter of Shelly and Barbara Perkins Brown, she attended Somerset Academy in Athens. A son, Steven Brown, died in 1991. Surviving are two daughters, Robyn Cobb and Sheila Brown, both of Portland; a son, Dwayne Brown of Athens; her mother, Barbara Brown of Athens; two brothers, Sheldon Brown and Scott Brown, both of Athens; a sister, Evon Heatley of Athens; and seven grandchildren. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at Smart & Edwards Funeral Home in Skowhegan. Burial will be later in the spring at the Mount Rest Cemetery in Athens.
