Read More	ANNIE BERT [sic] CALLEN (The following account of the life and death of a resident of Sherman county appeared in the Aurora Republican of August 12th) Annie Bert Callen was born in Bristol, England, March 21, 1863. At the age of five years, she, with her parents came to America, making their home in Bath, N. Y., where her girlhood was spent. It was here that she was converted and united with the Baptist church. In 1884, she with her family removed to Aurora, Nebraska, where she spent twelve happy years. During this time she was a member and organist of the Baptist church under the pastorate of Rev. G. W. Knapp. On August 6th, 1896, she was married to Robert K. Callen, of Emerson, Iowa, where they spent the first six years of wedded life, during which time three children were born, one of these--a twin of the little girl, dying at birth. In 1902, the family moved to Brainard, Neb., staying but one year and then removing to Sherman county, Nebraska, where she lived until she was brought to this city for medical treatment to the home of her brother, F. A. Burt, May 19, 1904. Here for about three months she bore uncomplainingly the most intense suffering; cheerful, even hopeful to the last, fearing nothing except that she should make trouble for those attending her. In the long illness of her father in the winter of 1902-3 she labored with all the devotion of her unselfish nature, never considering herself for one moment when she could be of use to another. Patient, sweet and loving she lived in an atmosphere of Christian charity for all. Her death was as her life had been a beautiful benediction. Her last moments of consciousness were on the eighth wedding anniversary and very characteristically were spent in planning for the pleasure of others. She leaves a husband and two children--Rose Myrtle, of six years and James Russel four years, a mother, sister and brother to keep fresh the beautiful memory of a faithful wife, a patient and devoted mother, and unselfish daughter and sister. The funeral services were conducted from the U. B. church Thursday afternoon at 2:20 by Rev. Jennie L. Starkey, Rev. A. E. Ricker and Elder A. W. Harney. A quartette consisting of Mrs. J. G. Alden, Mrs. W. E. Reber, A. E. House, and M. W. Fowler furnished music. The remains were interred in the Aurora cemetery and rest beside her father who passed away eighteen months ago.
