Riley, 64, passed away at 7:30 this morning, after being seriously ill for a week. Her death resulted from heart trouble. Funeral arrangements were being made today. Mrs. Riley was Anna Griffin daughter of John and Angeline (McKune) Griffin. She was born April 14, 1871, on a farm in Washington county just south of Coppock. She had lived in Coppock 22 years. Her marriage to Andrew Jackson Riley was on Oct. 5, 1893, at the Washington Methodist parsonage. Mrs. Riley was a faithful member of the Cottonwood United Brethren church. She leaves to mourn her death, her husband and one son, Cecil and daughter-in-law Lavina, who gave her excellent care in her last illness. and a sister, Mrs. A.M. Amrine of Merrimac. One son died in infancy. Washington (IA) Evening Journal 14 June 1935 --------- RILEY FUNERAL AT COPPOCK TOMORROW COPPOCK, July 15 -- Funeral services for Mrs. A. J. Riley will be held Sunday afternoon with a service at the Riley home at one o'clock and after that at the Cottonwood United Brethren church. Washington (IA) Evening Journal 15 June 1935 ----------- Mrs, Annie Ella Griffin Riley passed away at her home north of Coppock Friday morning at 7:30 on June 14, 1935 at the age of 64 years and two months of a heart ailment and complicated diseases. She had been slowly failing all spring, then about a week before her death she took suddenly worse and was bedfast almost a week. Anne Griffin, daughter of John and Angeline McKune Griffin, was born April 14, 1871 in Washington county, Iowa. On October 5, 1893 she was united in marriage to Andrew Jackson Riley of Gravity, Iowa at the Methodist parsonage in Washington. To this union was born two sons, the first dying in infancy and Cecil who with his wife Lavina made their home with his parents. She was converted and joined the Cottonwood United Brethren church at an early age and was a faithful member. As she lay on her bed of affliction, she asked those around her to pray of her and prayed with them. She bore her suffering patiently. Her neighbors, friends and relatives did all that kind hearts and loving hands could do for her until God took her home. Mrs. Riley was a kind, loving and faithful wife, mother and neighbor and will be greatly missed. She leaves to mourn her her loss, her husband, A. J. Riley; son, Cecil and his wife, Lavina and one sister, (Mary) Mrs. A. N. Amrine, besides a host of friends and relatives. Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at 2 o'clock but on account of bad roads was some later at Cottonwood United Brethren church conducted by Rev. Lloyd Patton. Mr. and Mrs. Frank Neff, Mrs. John Van Sant, and Rev. Lloyd Patton sang very beautiful, "Rock of Ages", "City Four Square" , "We're Going Down the Valley", and "Safe in the Arms of Jesus". The pallbearers were Roy Davison, Henry Neff, Gleede Dold, Charley Davison, Henderson Brooks and Lester Neff. Burial was in Wayland cemetery.
