When a young woman, she was an organist at a small church near London. It was here she met her future husband, William Collins, who was a congregational theological student from Harley College. On his ordination, he traveled to the United States as a missionary to the Indias. After a six-year engagement and at age 23, her aunt gave permission for her to wed, which she did in the US, whereupon William secured a parish in Wisconsin. They married in a town called Augusta and named their first child after it when she was born in Trempealeau, Wisconsin in August 1895. On their return to England, another daughter, Margaret Louisa, was born but only live for eleven months, dying from dysentery in Toronto, Canada. While William was pastor of a Baptist church at Pine Grove, two sons, William, Jr., and Arthur Joseph were born. From Pine Grove, they moved to Kincardine, Ontario, on the shores of Lake Huron where Elsie Mary Victoria was born. Another son, Harley, was born while they were stationed at Nova Scotia, Canada, and six months after his birth they moved to Boston, Massachusetts. William had several appointments in the following years, and finally, a 20-year term in New Hampshire. On his retirement, they moved to New Haven, CT, then to Manchester, NH, and finally resided with Augusta, their daughter, in East Concord, New Hampshire. Although retired, he continued an active ministry. William died on 20 December 1941 and Tottie lived to be almost 82 years old, dying on 28 June 1952. They are both remembered fondly by surviving grandchildren. William had a great interest in and love for classical music and opera. Annie enjoy playing the piano and singing throughout her entire life. She liked to sew and took pleasure in making clothes for her grandchildren. Her support for her husband in his ministry was greatly evident. Annie, William and their daughters Augusta and Elsie continued to correspond with the Australian relatives. Today the letter the family receives from Else (who will be 90 of 31 December) and Richard Edmunds (Augusta's son) are greatly appreciated and enjoyed. In May 1968 there was a small reunion of Flood descendants when Elsie and her husband, Lew Towle, visited Australia. On this occasion, Elsie planted a lemon tree on the site of the slab hut where her mother was born 98 years before. The late Mrs. Harold Hawkins could remember a lemon tree and rose bush marking the spot when she first arrive at "Colbrae" in 1928. Contributor: Amy Levesque (47156425)
