Annie Lena (Wilmarth) Sauvage was born on October 4, 1909 to George and Mae (Lewis) Wilmarth on the family farm in Pleasant Valley Township, Aurora County, South Dakota. Her mother passed away of the flu when she was quite young. Annie and her brother were raised by her father and grandfather. She spent a lot of time with Annie and Chan Luckett while she was growing up. She attended grade school at Wilmarth Country School and graduated in 1927 from Plankinton High School. After graduation, she taught at the Wilmarth Country School. In November of 1929 Annie was united in marriage to John R. “Jack” Sauvage. From this union two children were born: Carol in 1933 and John T. “Terry” in 1937. Jack and Annie operated several different businesses in Plankinton throughout the years, Annie did all the bookkeeping. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Plankinton and was able to live in her own home until the age of 100 years, 3 months and 5 days – when she became a resident of Avera Brady Health and Rehab in Mitchell, SD. Grateful for having shared in Annie’s life: her son, Terry Sauvage (Norma) of Plankinton, SD; a son-in-law, Albert Stoddard of Plankinton, SD; seven grandchildren: [names redacted]; thirteen great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren. Annie was preceded in death by: her husband, Jack Sauvage (1975), a daughter, Carol Stoddard (2010); a grandson, Denny Stoddard; her parents, George and Mae Wilmarth and a brother, Floyd Wilmarth.
