Pallbearers were Dana Bak, Dennis Bak, Bradley Pfleiderer, Tracy Rose, David Schumacher and Dennis Snowgren. Annie Bak was born on July 17, 1896 in East St.. Louis, 111. to Frands and Maria Petersen. At four years of age she moved with her family to Denmark where she was raised, attended school, and was confirmed. In 1929 she moved to the United States and moved to Milford, where she met Lars Bak. On Aug. 31, 1929 they were united in marriage. The couple made their home in Adair, where they farmed for the next 14 years. In 1944 they moved to Spirit Lake to a farm across from Templar Park, and eight years later they moved to a farm near Lake Park. In 1958, when Lars retired, they moved into Spirit Lake, where she has lived for the past 36 years. During this time Annie had worked for a short while at the Dutch Lunch and for 12 years in the lunch room at the old elementary school in Spirit Lake. Most of those years she did baking for people in the community. Annie was a charter member of Grace Lutheran Church. She also belonged to the Congenial Club, Elderberries, and a group of school cooks that met on Tuesdays for the past 17 years. She enjoyed crocheting and embroidering. Last Friday, July 8, 1994, she passed away at her home in Spirit Lake. She was preceded in death bher parents, her husband, Lars and by one brother, Arthur. She is survived by her children: Mrs. Ellen (Wayne) Akkerman of Des Moines, Borge Bak of Spirit Lake, and Mrs. Doris (Terry) Rose of Savannah, Mo.; 13 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; and by a brother, Peter and a sister, Emma, both living in Denmark.
