COPELAND CHESAPEAKE - Mary Ormond Copeland, 85, of the 1100 block of Anne Ave., died March 14, 2001 in Chesapeake. A native of Pitt County, N.C., she was the widow of Henry Carlton Copeland. She was a retired nutritionist with the Virginia State College system. Mrs. Copeland was a 40-year member and deaconess of Rosemont Christian Church, Chespeake. She was past secretary of the church's Christian Education Committee and a former coordinator of their children's church. She was past coordinator for the church's Meals on Wheels ministry, a past treasurer of the Ladies' Bible Class and past chairman of the Missionary Committee of the Women's Fellowship. She was a member and former chairman of the Home Life Committee of the Woman's Club of South Norfolk, former treasurer of the Portlock Garden Club, past secretary of the South Norfolk Civic League, served three years on the Chesapeake Environmental Committee, and was a lifetime member of the Nature Conservancy. She was a former assistant leader for Girl Scouts and a member of the Chesapeake General Hospital Auxiliary where in 1990 she was presented the first outstanding community service award from Chesapeake General Hospital. She was a member of the First Senior Citizens Club of Chesapeake. She is survived by two grandsons, Brett C. Graham and his wife, Lori of Durham, N.C. and William T. Graham Jr. and his wife, Kyong of Gurnee, Ill.; two sisters, Nannie Curtis and Elise Hannah; one brother, Allen Ormond, all of North Carolina; a son-in-law, James Adams of Chesapeake; seven great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. in Rosemont Christian Church with burial in Forest Lawn Cemetery.
