Description	:	At 9 o'clock Saturday morning, Dec. 4, death came to A.E. Clay at the Methodist Hospital, Des Moines, where he had been a patient since Sept. 20 and where he passed out of this life. His death was caused by heart lesion, which caused his life to slowly ebb away. His brother, I.N. Clay, of Casper, Wyoming, was at his bedside when the end came. Anson Edwin Clay was born in La Salle County, Illinois, Feb. 28, 1963. When he was five years of age he came with his parents, Lawrence and Hannah Clay to Iowa and lived on a farm three miles north of Grinnell, where he resided until 17 years of age, and removed to Newburg in 1882. In 1894 he came to Gilman and seven years ago moved to Newton, which has since been his home. His parents died many years ago, and he has been preceded in death by three brothers, William, his twin Ambrose B., and Albert F., and two sisters Sarah J. and Dora. Surviving him are one brother Irvin N. Clay of Casper, Wyo., and three sisters, Mrs. Emily Squire of Grinnell, and Mesdames Hattie Newton and Alice Perry of Gilman. Anse Clay was one of those big, whole-souled honest fellows whom one could not help but like and esteem for his friendly and genial qualities.
