Description	:	Anthony Burwell Coghill A train trip to move the family from Alberta, Canada to California was side-tracked in Sumas, Washington on May of 1910, while they waited for their belongings to reconnect with them. And in that wait, in the back room of the doctor's office, Anthony Burwell Coghill, better know later as Burl, was born to Albert and Martha Lawrence Coghill on May 10. And in that wait, in the back room of the doctor's office, Anthony Burwell Coghill, better know later as Burl, was born to Albert and Martha Lawrence Coghill on May 10. From that stop and birth, the family became residents of Washington state. Burl was raised in Nooksack, Glen Echo and Sedro Woolley over the next 17 years of his life. Burl graduated from Sedro Woolley High School; worked for Abbott Motors, and Ace Nickles' Flying A Service Station in Mount Vernon. During the early years in Nooksack, he met Alice June Mather at Sunday School - and never dreamed that years later they would cross paths at the station where he was pumping gas for Alice. That led to their wedding on June 12, 1937 in the Nooksack Community Methodist Church, back where they first met. During the war, Burl was employed in Seattle at Van Waters and Rogers. Then in April of 1946, the three moved to the farm in Nooksack. Dad worked for the school district as a bus driver, Mades Motors, and then for the Mobil Oil Dealership in Everson as a commissioned agent. Following that he purchased his own truck and went to work with Richfield Oil out of Bellingham. His area of responsibility was the rural Whatcom County. Dad took his faith to a very personal level and made it his act of worship and ministry, always! His membership was in the Nooksack Valley United Methodist Church until he and Mom moved to Mount Vernon, where they took an affiliate membership for the remainder of their lives. With Mom's death in June of 2002, Dad was lost, so in December of that same year he moved to Quincy, Washington. For the next five years he was with family, attending the Ephrata United Methodist Church. In June of 2007 with the advancement of Dad's dementia and Alzheimer's, we moved him to Highgate Manor - a Senior Living residence in Wenatchee. In May of this year, Dad celebrated his 100th birthday and there began his "last mile of the road." True decline began in July, yet the final sprint to the finish began on Nov. 4 just 10 short days before death became his new beginning in eternity with the Lord, on Nov. 14, 2010 at 8:30 p.m. Burl was a Life Member of the Nooksack Valley Lodge F&AM, where he received the Hirum Award for dedicated service to the Lodge; Nooksack Chapter of Order of the Eastern Star; the Scottish Rite; and Honorary Life Member of the Washington State Fire Commissioners; and the First United Methodist Church of Mount Vernon. Those ready to welcome him "home" were his mother and father; two brothers; two sisters; the love of his life and wife for 67 years, Alice; and four great-grandchildren he never met here. Memorial services will be held on Saturday, May 7, 2011 at First United Methodist Church, Mount Vernon, at 11 a.m. Memorials may be directed to First United Methodist Church of Mount Vernon. Dad will rest beside Mom in the Nooksack Cemetery awaiting Christ's return. "When we all get to heaven, what a day of rejoicing that will be(!)..."
