Funeral mass was held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 10, at St. Bonaventure's Catholic Church, Underwood, with Rev. James Ryan officiating. Interment was at the Underwood Cemetery. Stockert was born Sept 28, 1907 at Speier, Russia, to Raphael and Margaret (Bast) Stockert. He came to the United States with his parents in 1909 and settled at Solen. He grew up and was educated at Solen, graduating from Solen High School in 1929. He then attended Dickinson State College for three years and taught rural and high school at Solen. On June 1, 1939 he was married to Helen Olson at Bismarck. He then taught at the Consolidated Schools in Sioux County. He worked for a short time at Montgomery Ward in Minot before being drafted into the U.S. Army in 1944. After his discharge in 1945 he returned to Underwood and worked at the Olson Hardware store for over 30 years. During this time he assumed ownership and then sold the store in the early 1980's. He then retired and he and his wife continued to make their home in Underwood. He was a member of the St. Bonaventure's Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus, a charter member of the Underwood Senior Citizens, a member and past commander of the Underwood VFW, a member of the Prairie View Nursing Home Board since its beginning, and was on the Underwood School Board for 13 years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening. Survivors include his wife, Helen, Underwood; one son and daughter-in-law, Tom and Kathy, Minot; two daughters and sons-in-law Judi and Waldo Larson, Handford, CA, and Jane and Dennis Carbrey, Allen, Texas; eight grandchildren; one sister, Catherine Borgers, Minot; and two brothers, John, Underwood, and Frank, Mandan. He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers. Arrangements were by Goetz Funeral Home, Underwood.
