Born May 5, 1917, in Piedmont, W.Va., he was the son of the late Carlo and Josephine (Cantarone) DiGioia. Two brothers, Michael and Julius DIgioia; two sisters, Mary Linkswiler and Josephine Littlefield; and a son-in-law, Glenn Whitehurst, also preceded him in death. Tony was a United States Air Force Veteran, having served during World War II. He retired from Westvaco Corp., with 50 years of service, having been a welder. He was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church, Westernport, and a member of Victory Post 155 American Legion, Westernport, and Queens Point V.F.W. 6775, McCoole. Tony was also a long time volunteer with Luke Fire Company, and was an avid hunter and an amateur boxer in his younger days. He leaves behind his wife of 54 years, Amelia (Ream) DiGioia; three daughters, Betty Jo Allen and husband Bobby, Lakeside, Ariz., Carla Whitehurst, New Bern, N.C., and Christine Portaro and husband Ed, Evergreen, Colo.; one sister, Felice Boal, Westernport; and six grandchildren, Anitra Ray Bon, Justin Allen, Sarah Allen, Hannah Allen, Jessica Lynn Portaro and Emily Ann Portaro; and numerous nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends at the Boal Funeral Home, Westernport, Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be conducted at the funeral home chapel, Friday at 10 a.m. with Monsignor Paul Byrnes officiating. Interment will be in Garrett County Memorial Gardens, Oakland, where full military honors will be accorded at graveside by the combined veterans organizations. In lieu of flowers, memorial may be directed to the Tri-Towns Rescue Squad, or St. Peter's Church, Westernport.
