Kessler was born August 10, 1933 to Peter and Magdalena (Usselman) Kessler on the family farm near Mina, SD. He attended Sunnyside rural school and worked on the farm along with being employed at Hub City Livestock Sales Barn. In 1955, Tony and future brother-in-law, Wilbur Green, started a small company digging dugouts and building roads in McPherson County. Tony entered the US Army April 23, 1956 and completed basic training at Fort Bliss, Texas, and was stationed with the 25th infantry Division at Scofield Barracks in Oahu, HI, as a vehicle mechanic. Tony was honored with the Expert Marksmanship trophy with the M1 rifle during his time in service. Tony and Helen L. Green were united in marriage January 17, 1959. They made their home on the farm that Tony purchased from Reinhold Schilling in August of 1958, located northeast of Leola, where he still resided at the time of his death. Tony and Helen were dairy farmers for 33 years along with employing herds of stock cows, crop land, and eventually adding the business, Forever Water Tanks. Preceding Tony in death are his parents, his wife in April of 2000, and one brother, Harold Kessler. Grateful to have shared in Tony's life is his daughter, Shirley (Jeff) Stein of Westport, SD, his granddaughter, Karissa Kessler of Westport, SD. Four sisters, Delores Schumacher of Ipswich, SD, Elvina Follum of Rapid City, SD, Dorothy Fettig of Aberdeen and Mary Ann (Ron) Kight of Mitchell, SD. Two brothers, Clarence (Marlene) Kessler and Melvin (Virginia) Kessler both of Leola, SD.
