ANTON PUHALLA Anton Puhalla was born in Schmitz, Germany on June 11, 1875 and died at the Pawnee Hospital, May 23, 1949. He was the eldest son of Hippolit and Rosie Puhalla. ANTON PUHALLA Anton Puhalla was born in Schmitz, Germany on June 11, 1875 and died at the Pawnee Hospital, May 23, 1949. He was the eldest son of Hippolit and Rosie Puhalla. He came to America in June, 1892 at the age of 17 years and was a farm laborer for many years. He was united in marriage to Rosie Sabata at St. Mary's Catholic church, March 1901 to which union one son was born, who died in infancy. Closely following the death of the infant his wife, Mrs. Rosie Puhalla died. On May 29, 1916, he was united in Holy Wedlock to Anna Wenzl Wehrbein in St Anthony's church by the Rev. Justin Welk. The happy couple started housekeeping on a farm two and one-half miles east of Steinauer, where he spent the rest of his life. He was in failing health for the past two years and on April 11, he suffered a stroke, from which he never recovered. He entered the eternal reward just a few minutes before 10:00 on May 23. He leaves to mourn their loss his wife, Anna, a step-son, Irwin Wehrbein, Hebron; a brother Hippolit Puhalla of St. Mary and one brother in Germany. Funeral services were held in St. Anthonys church May 27 with a Requium High Mass celebrated by the Rev. R. L. Wageman and sung by the combined childrens and High School choirs. Interment was in St. Anthony's cemetery.
