Anton Styskal, Sr., 96, David City's oldest citizen and a resident of this locality 78 years, died at his home in south David City, Tuesday, Dec. 6. In failing health three years, his last illness was of a few weeks duration. Mr. Styskal came to Butler County in 1871 when he was 18 years of age, coming from Budecka, Czechoslovakia, where he was born. Accompanying his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Styskal, the family located on a farm east of David City. Married to Marie Riha, early in life, he lived to see his descendents number nearly 100. There were 11 children born to Mr. and Mrs. Styskal, there are 30 grandchildren, 55 great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren. Mrs Styskal died January 20, 1926, which was several years after she and Mr. Styska had retired and moved to David City. Since her death, a daughter, Miss Frances Styskal had cared for her father, another daughter, Mrs. Antonette Reznicek, assisting in later years. There is one other daughter living besides Miss Frances and Mrs. Reznicek. She is Mrs. Stacia Litty of Calloway. One daughter, Mrs. Mary Shandera, is deceased. There are seven sons, Anton of David City, Joseph of Kimball, Frank of Exeter, James of California, John living in Hawaii, Louis of Valley and Edward of St. Louis, MO. A long-time and faithful member of St. Mary's Catholic church, it was there funeral services were held Friday morning at 10 o'clock. The Rev. V. Durr officiated at the services and St. Mary's choir furnished the music. Pallbearers were Joe Bruner, Adolf Cidak, Joe Plasek, Frank Riha, Anton Riha and Frank Styskal. All sons and daughters were present at the services with exception of James and John. Three daughters-in-law, Mrs. Frank Styskal, of Exeter, Mrs. Joe Styskal of Valley and Mrs. Louis Styskal of Kimball, were in attendance also. Grandchildren present were Mr and Mrs. Elmer Styskal of Kearney, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Styskal of Exeter, Mr. and Mrs. Glen Hendrickson of Osceola, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Rosenberrt if Shelby, Mr. and Mrs. George VanMoorleghem of Omaha, Mr. and Mrs. Norbert Krawjeski of Ogallala, Mr. and Mrs. Joe Shandera of Crete, Mrs. Marvin Jensen of Columbus, Mr. and Mrs.Richard Styskal. Great grandchildren present were Miss Marilyn Shandera of Lincoln, Leonard, Dennis and Robert Shandera of Crete, and Donald, Robert, Edward, Diane, and Joyce Styskal of David City. Amoung others coming from away were Mrs. John Styskal of Lincoln. Mr. and Mrs. Joe Franek of Valley, Joe Capoun of Loma, Anton Riha of Rising City, Mrs. Frank Pesek, Mrs. Joe Bruner, Mr. and Mrs. Hubert Coufal and Frank Riha and son William, of Brainard.
