Anton Barney Hoelker, eldest child of Joseph and Elizabeth Fankman Hoelker, was born at Dyersville, Iowa, Christmas Day, December 25, 1871. He married Catherine Eich of Rozelle, Iowa, February 12, 1895. The couple celebrated a golden wedding anniversary Sunday, February 11, with appropriate festivities in St. Joseph's Church. During an open house held at the church that afternoon 170 relatives and friends paid their respects to the couple. He farmed near Anthon forty-two years, retiring in 1939. Death came to him Wednesday morning, April 25, 1945, after a three-week illness. Surviving are the widow, Catherine; three sons, John of Anthon, Joe of Kingsley and Elvin of Correctionville; two daughters, Mrs. Josephine Jensen of Bronson and Mrs. Elizabeth Lachle of Sioux City; twenty-two grandchildren; two brothers, John of Pukwana, South Dakota; and Frank of Darlington, Wisconsin; four sisters, Mrs. Josephine Sullivan, Mrs. Elizabeth Hoing, and Mrs. Mary Burkmier, all of Kimball, South Dakota; and Mrs. Hannah Murphy of Apple River, Illinois. He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church and of the Holy Name Society for Men.
