Mr. Divis and family were living in Preston [sic] county on the Indian reservation near Omaha. Deceased was engaged in farming and early last Friday afternoon left the house to go to the barn preparatory to working in the field. He had gone but a few steps when he was struck by a bolt of lightening, death coming instantly. Mr. Divis and family were residents of Ulysses ten years ago, living here during a period of one year and by their kindness and helpful deeds to those who were in distress won many friends. Deceased was of a cheerful disposition, ever seeing the sunny side of life. Mr. and Mrs. Divis lost their baby girl while residents of Ulysses. Following their departure from here, they lived for a time in Minnesota, later going to North Dakota, but finally three years ago located on land near Omaha, where at the time of his death he was engaged in farming pursuits. Mr. Divis was thirty-three years old and leaves his sorrowing widow and two children, Della, aged ten years, and James eight years old, together with his mother, one sister and several brothers, all of whom were present at the funeral services held at St. Mary's Catholic church in Ulysses, Tuesday morning, July 1, 1919 at 9:30 o'clock, Rev. Father Loughran officiating at Requiem High Mass. Many friends from Dwight wee present, also old Ulysses friends. Interment was made at the side of his baby daughter in the Catholic cemetery near town. "Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord, and may light perpetual shine upon him." EBL
