Description	:	Orchard News Friday June 23, 1922 After suffering for about a year from cancer of the stomach, Anton Roeser passed away at his home in the west part of town Tuesday morning about nine o'clock. While he was a great sufferer during his illness he was very patient, and made but little complaint. Mr. Roeser was a man, who did not associate very generally with people always keeping his troubles to himself. While he was a great sufferer during his illness he was very patient, and made but little complaint. Mr. Roeser was a man, who did not associate very generally with people always keeping his troubles to himself. He was of the first settlers of this section, the family homesteaded the farm which they still own, 3 1/2 miles north of town, in November 25, 1885, coming here from Wisconsin in company with Geo. Meuret and family. He broke the prairie land with a team of oxen on the quarter section where the St. Anthony Lumber Co no has their lumber yard. The family like all other frontier families suffered the usual amount of hardships, and one thing which was almost unbearable was the fact that they lost practically all their children one winter while on the homestead, seven dying within two weeks of black dyptheria. Aton Roeser was born in Dane county, Wisconsin, July 13, 1848 and on December 19, 1870 was united in marriage to Clara Knipschild and to this union were born ten children all of whom have passed on before with the exception of one daughter, Mrs. J.H. Hoshaw of Sioux City. The family left the old homestead and came to Orchard in 1909 where he the wife and two grand children have resided. He leaves to mourn his death the wife, one daughter, four grandchildren and two sisters. Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at 2:00 o'clock at the United Presbyterian church conducted by Father J. P. Vogel, of Clearwater. Interment was made in the Pleasant Valley cemetery beside his loved ones who preceeded him.
