Description	:	Son of Frank E. and Josie (Jaeger) Schmidt. He married Betty Hosek on Aug. 20, 1946, in Ord. Survivors of the immediate family include his wife; a son and daughter-in-law, Ron and Kathleen Schmidt of Kearney; three daughters and sons-in-law, Sharon and Roger Walker of Elba, Janice and Dan Rosenquist of Columbus, and Diane and John Atchity of Hastings; and two brothers and sisters-in-law, Clarence and Ernestine Schmidt of St. Paul, and Edwin and Rosemary Schmidt of Omaha. Also surviving are 10 grandchildren, Brian Walker and his wife Faye, Lisa Siebert and her husband Roric, Mark Walker, Matt Walker and his wife Ann, Ben Schmidt, Anna Schmidt, Megan Rosenquist, Ryan Rosenquist, Sam Atchity and Sarah Atchity; two great-grandchildren, Beckett Siebert and Ehryn Schmidt; and a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Jay and Dorothy Stoddard of Grand Island. Anton was raised in St. Paul and attended St. Paul Schools. He joined the U.S. Army on Sept. 16, 1942. He was in the Battle of the Bulge during World War II. He was honorably discharged on Jan. 15, 1946. He worked for Wells Brothers in Cotesfield and the couple later moved to the family farm in 1954. He then farmed until retirement. Anton was a member of the St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Elba for over 70 years. He served on the Elba School Board for 26 years and also served on the Elba Elevator Board. He was a member of the Carl Mogensen American Legion Post No. 119 of St. Paul and of the Knights of Columbus. He enjoyed his family very much, playing cards, gatherings at the river and fishing. He also enjoyed going to morning coffee club with the guys. Last summer Anton received an award for 51 years of volunteer service to the Elba EMT's and Fire Department fundraisers. He donated his time at the Elba church and cemetery. He was also Santa's helper. He is preceded in death by his parents; a granddaughter Alison Rosenquist; three sisters, Mary Schmidt, Agnes Hansen and Helen Gdanitz; and three brothers Ernie, Emil and James Schmidt. Memorials are suggested to St. Joseph's Catholic Church, the Elba EMT's and Fire Department, or to Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church Parish Center.
