Mrs. Charles Houdek, Sr., who underwent a surgical operation for gallstones in St. Catherine's hospital, Omaha, where she had been for ten days, died Tuesday morning, Oct. 20, at 1:20 o'clock. She was 56 years of age. Funeral services were held at Assumption Catholic church at Dwight at 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 22, in charge of the pastor, Rev. B. Bauer. Singing was by the church choir. The pallbearers were Joe Petrzilka and Louis Hurt, sons-in-law of Mrs. Houdek, Frank Pesek, Jr., John Vlach and Richard and George Potter. Burial was in the Dwight Catholic cemetery. There was large attendance of relatives and friends at the funeral. Among those from elsewhere were Mrs. John Trecek and son, Mrs. Frank Stehno, Mrs. Hugo Newidomski, Mr. and Mrs. Anton Wogtkemiz and William Wogtkemiz and daughters, all of Omaha. Mrs. Houdek's maiden name was Antonia Raiter and she was born in Europe April 11, 1880. At the age of ten years she came with her mother to America, her father having passed away shortly before they sailed. They came to Omaha where she grew to young womanhood and was married on July 3, 1897, to Charles Houdek, who survives her. They resided in Omaha ten years and in Swanton eight years, then moving to Valparaiso whch had since been their home. Six children, three sons and three daughters, were born to Mr. and Mrs. Houdek, all of whom survive. They are Charles Houdek, Jr., of Dwight, John Houdek, of Colon, James Houdek, of Crete, Mrs. Marie Petrzilka of Brainard, Mrs. Emma Hottovy of Omaha and Mrs. Agnes Hurt of Valparaiso. Mrs. Houdek also leaves 23 grandchildren and two sisters, Mrs. Josephine Novak of Omaha and Mrs. Frank Pesek of Loma. A kindly, hospitable woman, devoted to her family and ever ready to lend a helping hand when necessary, Mrs. Houdek was loved and respected by a host of friends and relatives. __ Card of Thanks – Our heartfelt thanks are extended to all those who were so kind and helpful in our time of sorrow, especially to Rev.
