Description	:	A.W. "Bill" Hissink, 95, formerly of 1018 Albia Rd., died at 10:25 am April 9, 2012 at The Good Samaritan Society-Ottumwa. Bill was born on November 15, 1916 in Taintor, IA to recent Dutch immigrants Peter Diedric and Wilhemenia Antona Pennekamp Hissink. The family farmed in the New Sharon area until moving to Ottumwa in the late 1920's. Bill was born on November 15, 1916 in Taintor, IA to recent Dutch immigrants Peter Diedric and Wilhemenia Antona Pennekamp Hissink. The family farmed in the New Sharon area until moving to Ottumwa in the late 1920's. A 1937 graduate of Ottumwa High School, Bill was a World War II veteran serving in the Army Air Corps as a bomber pilot. He continued to serve his county in the Air Force Reserve for another 20 years. He married Mary M. McClure on April 15, 1950. Bill worked for John Morrell & Co. for 30 years, and later worked as a union carpenter for thirteen years prior to his retirement. He served the Lord and the Bethany Baptist Church as trustee and deacon; he was a longtime member of B.P.O. Elks Lodge #347, a 50-year member of Empire Masonic Lodge #269 A.F.& A.M. and a member of O.B.Nelson Post #3 American Legion. He coached Babe Ruth baseball and enjoyed bowling and golf with seniors. Bill loved his family and enjoyed the young and the old. Surviving are his wife, Mary; two sons, Tom(Cathy)Hissink of Nevada, MO, Jeff(Betsy)Hissink of Penfield, NY; three granddaughters, Emily(TJ)Hunt of Kansas City, MO, Clarie(Kyle)Hooe of Joint Base Lewis McChord, WA, Rachel Hissink of Penfield, NY; a great-grandson, Carter William Hooe; a sister, Alyda Grube of Sheboygan, WI and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother, Peter Hissink; two sisters, Johanna Hissink and Gardena Trout. Graveside services and burial will be 1:30 pm Thursday at Shaul Cemetery with Pastor Dale Shadonix officiating. Military services will be conducted by O.B.Nelson Post #3 American Legion and Walter B. Schafer Post #775 Veterans of Foreign Wars. Visitation will begin at 11 am Wednesday at Reece Funeral Home with the family present from 7-8:30 pm Wednsday. Visitation with the family present will also be from noon to 1 pm Thursday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Bethany Baptist Church or Good Samaritan Society Hospice.
