On a genealogy history trip we visited Celt Road and Still Pond. George N. Haney and Mary Thomas Haney lived at Still Pond (the two story house is still standing). Their oldest daughter, Araminta Jane Haney, married George E. Marshall (my grandparents) According to Aunt Elsie she was born in her grandparents home at Still Pond in 1911. George N. then built a little log house down over the hill. It had two rooms down and two rooms up. His daughter, Arminta Jane Haney, her husband, George E. Marshall, and their oldest child, Elsie, lived there. My father, Elsie's younger brother, Claude Marshall (1913) and their brother, James (1917) were born there. The family moved from Celt after James was born when Elsie was about six years old. *** Araminta Haney and George E. Marshall were married December 25, 1910 at the George N. Haney farm at Still Pond, Celt, Greene County, Virginia. During the period 1910-1917 George E. Marshall was employed as a farmer for George N. Haney. In late 1917 or early 1918, George, Araminta and their children Elsie, Claude and James left the Haney farm at Sill Pond and George found employment as a farmer at Wilhoit Farm, Woodson's Store, Greene County, Virginia. c1920 George left the Wilhoit Farm and started working at Smith's Farm in Charlottesville. Araminta liked the move because the Smiths were the same people that owned Smithland Farms near Nortonsville, where George's parents had worked and where George and his brother and sister were born. In 1922 George changed employers and went to work for the Stockton Farm in Rio, Albemarle County. Araminta was very unhappy with the change because she held the Smith's in such high regard. On 4/10/1922 George William Marshall and on 3/6/1926 Harry Gilbert Marshall were born to Araminta and George. Tragedy struck on 7/8/1926. Araminta had a boil on her neck, which her husband George lanced. This led to blood poisoning which quickly caused her death.
