Read More	ARCHER BOOKER Archer Edmondson Dorsey Booker, 91, resident of 112 North Cedar Lake Drive, husband of Mary Jane "Cass" Casstevens Booker, died March 10, 2012 at Hospice House in Greenwood. Born in Halifax, VA, January 9, 1921, he was a son of the late Dr. Frank Eubank Booker, MD and Peachie Dorsey Booker. He was a graduate of Halifax High School where he exceled in sports. In 1948 he graduated from North Carolina State University with a degree in textile manufacturing and where he lettered in baseball and basketball his first year and was a member of the Kappa Sigma Fraternity. In his sophomore year he entered the US Marine Corps V-2 program at UNC, Chapel Hill. While there, the Navy issued a call for volunteers to enter their officer training program at Columbia University in New York City. He answered that call and received the commission of Ensign in 1943. He served 3 years in the South Pacific on the L.P.M. No 178. At the end of the war in 1946 he received his honorable discharge from the Navy as a Lieutenant JG and returned to NC State where he graduated in 1948. Archer began his employment in Greensboro, NC in 1948 in sales for Eastman Chemical Products, Inc. It was in Greensboro that his love of the game of golf began at the Greensboro Country Club and also in Greensboro he met and married the love of his life. In January 1956 he was transferred to Greenville, SC as district sales manager. While in Greenville, he was a member of the Greenville Country Club and served on the board of the Poinsett Club. In 1960 he transferred to the New York City office of Eastman Chemical on Madison Avenue. In August 1961, he moved to Greenwood, SC to begin a long career with Greenwood Mills. He retired in 1984 as Vice-President of sales and marketing. He was a member of the Episcopal Church of the Resurrection where he served on the Vestry. He was a former member and past president of the Greenwood Rotary Club where he served as host family to six international students. He was a board member, past vice president and 51 year member of the Greenwood Country Club. He was a former member of the Greenwood Chamber of Commerce, board of visitors at Lander University and served on the board of directors at St. Nicholas Speech School and the American Cancer Society. Being an avid golfer, he was a past member of the Southern Seniors, SC Seniors Golf Association and several area senior groups. Surviving in addition to his wife of 61 years are a son, Archer, Jr. and wife Summer Booker of Austin, TX; a daughter, Hollie and husband Cary Milliner of Aiken; grandchildren, Cary Milliner, IV of Blacksburg, VA, Gaines Milliner of Aiken, Julie Booker of Houston, TX and Archer "Trey" Booker, III of San Marcos, TX; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted at 3:00 PM Monday at the Episcopal Church of the Resurrection with The Reverend Nicholas Beasley officiating. Burial will be at 11:30 AM Wednesday at St. John's Episcopal Church Cemetery in Halifax, VA. Pallbearers will be Frank Wideman, Furman Self, Frank Hawthorne, Gales McClintock, John Harris, Melvin Poole, Bob Roddey, Buddy Hawkins, Bill Whaley, Lang Foster, Bob Stewart, Fred Calfee, Jim McDonald, Bill Womble, Don Urquhart, Bob Stevenson, Bubba Self, Frank Russell, Bill McCabe and James Griffin. The family is at the home in Cedar Lake. The body is at Blyth Funeral Home. The family request that flowers be omitted and memorials made to St. John's Episcopal Church Cemetery Fund, PO Box 566, Halifax, VA 24558, Episcopal Church of the Resurrection, 3283, Greenwood, SC 29648 or to Hospice Care of the Piedmont, 408 W.
