He was the son of George and Hannah (Brown) Mossman of Grayson Co., Virginia who moved to Wayne Co., Indiana where they were enumerated in the 1830 census. Read More	Archibald was one of the leading farmers and stock men of Tipton township, Hardin county, and was born in Mercer county, Illinois on January 23, 1844. He was the son of George and Hannah (Brown) Mossman of Grayson Co., Virginia who moved to Wayne Co., Indiana where they were enumerated in the 1830 census. They later moved to Mercer county, Illinois and located near Keithsburg, where George Mr. continued in his trade as a blacksmith. In in 1854 the family moved to Hardin county, Iowa, where they settled ten miles west of Eldora, in section 11, Tipton township. There Arch's father made a success of farming and stock raising and continued to reside on his farm until his death in 1870. His widow, Hannah, passed away in 1887. Arch Mossman received only a limited education, but became a widely read man. He lived at home until his marriage to Julia Simplot, of Dubuque, Iowa on 23 Mar 1874. After 1874 Mr. Mossman located on section 11, Tipton township, and continued to live there, retiring from active work in 1908. He was the owner of a fine farm of one hundred and seventy-five acres of valuable land. He was a very successful breeder of short-horn cattle, Poland-China hogs and draft horses. He was loyal to Republican policies and held many of the township offices. Three children were born to Archibald and Julia (Simplot) Mossman. Lena May, who married Henry Palo, a farmer in Tipton township; Rosa, who first married Otis Ross, and 2nd Henry Coomer, the son of John and Matilda (Follet) Coomer; and George F. "Frank" who married Laura Day "Daisy" Wiseman, the daughter of Alfred. The 1895 census indicates that Archibald and Julia were divorced, she living with her mother, and Archibald listed with the three children - and again in the 1900 census. Julia, the mother of Mr. Mossman's children was called to her rest on October 16, 1909, and Arch thereafter resided with his daughter Rosa and son Frank, enumerated in both their 1910 households. Archibald died at the age of 75 years and nine days.
