Mason passed to the beyond at his home on east Fourth street Saturday evening. An old soldier and Intensely patriotic citizen, a consistent christian and a man who was esteemed and respected by all who know him, he will be missed by many, for there are few who did not know him. For several weeks prior to the call he had been failing a general breaking down of the physical forces seventy-nine years of active life. Arch McCracken Mason was born July 10, 1838, at Madisonville, Tenn. In 1844 the parents moved to Henry county, Iowa, where the deceased resided on a farm until 1861, when he enlisted in the Fourth Iowa Cavalry and served nearly four years, being honorably discharged at Atlanta, Ga.,August 11th, 1865. On September 27,1866, he was united in marriage at Mt.Pleasant, Iowa, to Sara Jane Woodworth, and to that union three children now survive. They are Mrs M.F.Hosler, of this city, Robert A.Mason, of Aurora, Ill., and Mrs.C.T.Rowen of Netherland Co. In 1872 Mr.and Mrs. Mason moved to Lincoln county and homesteaded land on which the town of Curtis is now located. Five years later they moved to North Platte which has since been their home. For about thirty years Mr. Mason was employed in the Union Pacific shops, resigning a few years ago to spend the evening of life in whatever manner most pleasing, and this he and his wife did by making frequent trips. Mr. Mason was a member of the Grand Army Post and Platte Valley lodge of Masons, and since 1870 had been a member of the Methodist church. The funeral was held from the Methodist church yesterday afternoon in charge of the Masons and G.A.R. and with services conducted by Rev.Cram. The church was filled with sorrowing friends. Pall bearers were T.C.Patterson, J. E.Evans, Julius Hahlor, John Day, Chas. Hirsch and Butler Buchanan. The North Platte semi-weekly tribune., October 02, 1917
