Description	:	Archie Close, 80, died in the Modoc Medical Center September 6th. Close was born April 28, 1881 in New York. A pioneer automobile man in Alturas, he was responsible for delivering some of the first automobiles into Modoc County. He has resided here since 1910. Mr. Close was also known as a confirmed naturalist and after 30 years in the garage business worked for the Fish and Game Commission and the forest service. Close was born April 28, 1881 in New York. A pioneer automobile man in Alturas, he was responsible for delivering some of the first automobiles into Modoc County. He has resided here since 1910. Mr. Close was also known as a confirmed naturalist and after 30 years in the garage business worked for the Fish and Game Commission and the forest service. He was a member of the Odd Fellows Lodge, Masonic Lodge and one of the founders of the Modoc Gem and Mineral Society. Last rites were conducted from the Kerr Chapel Saturday and interment at Alturas Cemetery. Only known survivors are several nieces in New York.
