PILOT MOUNTAIN - Mrs. Archie Rue Johnson Cox, age 75, of Pilot Mountain, died Monday, May 2, 2011 at Joan & Howard Woltz Hospice Home. She was born November 15, 1935 in Surry County to the late Harvey & Ollie Johnson Johnson. Mrs. Cox was a retired homemaker and a member of Holly Springs Baptist Church, where she was active in the church nursery, Vacation Bible School & youth program. PILOT MOUNTAIN - Mrs. Archie Rue Johnson Cox, age 75, of Pilot Mountain, died Monday, May 2, 2011 at Joan & Howard Woltz Hospice Home. She was born November 15, 1935 in Surry County to the late Harvey & Ollie Johnson Johnson. Mrs. Cox was a retired homemaker and a member of Holly Springs Baptist Church, where she was active in the church nursery, Vacation Bible School & youth program. She was involved in the family tobacco farm as well as an excellent seamstress and loved cooking, baking and working in her garden and flowers. She is survived by her daughters: Libby & husband Eddie Radford; Mount Airy, NC and Janet & husband Dean Johnson; Pinnacle, NC; sons: Garry & wife Angela Cox; Pilot Mountain & Keith & wife Reva Cox; Pilot Mountain, NC; grandchildren: Tabatha & husband Eric Mauldin, Ted & wife Shelley Radford, Matthew Johnson, Amanda & husband Sam Killion, Adam Cox, Roman Cox and Nicole & husband Craig Jacobs; great-grandchildren: Kalei Mauldin, Konnor Mauldin, Kameron Mauldin, Trae Radford, Sierra Radford & Katherine Jacobs; sisters: Shelba & husband Don Whitaker; Ararat, NC, Jackie & husband Alfred Cave; Dobson, NC and Judy & husband Charles Welch; Dobson, NC; brother Edsel & wife Polly Johnson; Ararat, NC and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Cox was preceded in death by her husband, Glenn Cox and grand-daughter, Katherine Cox. Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, May 4, 2011 at 3:00 p.m. at Holly Springs Baptist Church, in Mount Airy, NC, conducted by Rev. Wayburn Mosley with interment to follow in the Church Cemetery. Mrs. Cox will lie in state one hour prior to the service. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, May 3, 2011 from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Holly Springs Baptist Church, and at other times at the home of Eddie and Libby Radford, 861 White Buffalo Road, Mount Airy, NC 27030. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Holly Springs Baptist Church, c/o Carol Mayes, 374 Holly Springs Road, Mount Airy, NC 27030 or to Joan & Howard Woltz Hospice Home, 945 Zephyr Road, Dobson, NC 27017. The family would like to give special thanks to family, friends and hospice staff for their care and support. Howell-Nelson Funeral Service of Pilot Mountain is serving the family.
