Ardell Kuper was born on a farm near Lennox, SD on Apr. 1, 1923, the daughter of Cornelius D. and Dena (Jibben) Kuper. She grew up there and attended Middleton District #23 rural school. On Nov. 16, 1948 she was united in marriage to Aaron "Bob" Muller at Turner County First Presbyterian Parsonage, rural Davis. Following their marriage they lived in Sioux Falls where Ardell worked at the YMCA Cafe. They then moved to their farm southwest of Lennox where they continued to live. Her husband died on Dec. 20, 1983. She moved into Lennox in 1996. Ardell worked in food service and catering most of her life. She owned and operated Ardell's Cafe in Davis for a number of years and later Ardell's Salad Shack southwest of Lennox. She was very well known for her potato salad, which is still available throughout the area. She was also employed at Anthony's Bakery in Lennox. Ardell was a member of Turner County First Presbyterian Church, the Liv N' Learn Extension Club and was active in the Lennox Historical Society. Besides her parents and husband she was preceded in death by one son, Bobby, on Mar. 23, 2003 and one brother, Alfred Kuper, on June 1, 2005. Grateful for having shared her life are her daughter and son-in-law, Joy and John Lang of Lennox; a daughter-in-law: Georgette Sutera of Springfield; four grandchildren: Waren (Hope) Muller, Kent Muller, Carl Lang and Emma Lang; one great-grandson: Jack; her nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
