Ardelle Virginia Folsland was born on April 16, 1923, in Madison, South Dakota, to Alfred and Lenore (Severson) Folsland. She attended Hill School in Oldham through the 8th grade and graduated from Oldham High School in 1941 as valedictorian. She attended Augustana College for two years and transferred to UCLA, earning a Bachelors degree in personnel administration. After graduating, she worked as the assistant to the director of the Veterans Placement Office at UCLA. She met Robert Black while at UCLA and they were married in 1949. They lived briefly in Berkeley, Calf., where she worked at a hospital. They moved to New York, where she again worked at a hospital before having children and moving back to California. She went back to work at the age of 50, becoming an employment development specialist for the state of California. She and Robert retired to Murphys, Calif., in the Sierra Nevada foothills, where she was active in the Covenant Womens Group, Missions Committee, and Bible study group at Chapel in the Pines. She loved the Lord, her husband, children, and grandchildren. She and Robert loved to travel, especially accompanied by their son Robert on Silver Sea cruises. She was preceded in death by her husband and one granddaughter.
